Distance learning is part of the "new normal," it's time to redirect perspectives and reap the rewards.
FREMONT, CA: Global education systems have had to respond to COVID-19 on very short notice. The go-to solution turned out to be distance and remote learning. Yet, for many, this is a new field—inherently, students, parents, and administrators must know the benefits.
Advantages of Distance Learning Courses
It’s Flexible: A critical benefit of distance learning is flexibility. This benefit inspired many educators to pivot to distance learning after the coronavirus outbreak since e-learning permits students to continue partaking in class without being physically present. Educators and students can adapt learning to their personal schedules. Parents can adjust their schedules to assist their children with distance learning since physical teachers are absent. Distance learning can cater to a student’s productivity needs as well. For instance, maybe a student lacks focus in the morning but pumps out most of their work in the afternoon. Unlike conventional classes, distance learning doesn’t need students to be on call at a specific time.
Online education continuously adjusts to students with distinctive learning needs. Doing so is much more complicated in a physical classroom and managing multiple students’ needs simultaneously.
It Eliminates the Commute: All teachers and administrators have heard this scenario.
The alarm didn’t go off, the car didn’t start, and the student showed up to class late. Having to get to a physical establishment can put pressure on students and adults. With distance learning, that’s no longer a problem.
It Saves Time: One of the best pros of distance learning is that it saves time over the course of the day. In a conventional school, a teacher supervises a whole class of students who raise their hands, ask for feedback and chat with their friends. And all these distractions consume time. In distance learning, although there may be live video classes, much of the content stays available 24/7, including live-recorded class lectures, resulting in fewer interruptions. Moreover, if a school uses preexisting curricula and materials or an LMS system, it could save more time than planning and replanning lessons.
Distance Learning is Here to Stay: COVID-19 transformed the world, and the future of education will never be the same. Distance learning is part of the “new normal,” Rather than seeking the downfalls, it’s time to redirect perspectives and reap the rewards. Like any other medium, distance learning is not flawless, but it can effortlessly contend with traditional classroom instruction if implemented appropriately.
